The asbestos industry in the United States began in 1858 when the Johns Company began mining for material used for asbestos insulation and became widespread during the industrial revolution. The first documented asbestos-related death occurred in 1906 and shortly after researches began noticing a large number of early deaths and lung issues surrounding towns with asbestos mines.
